Park(ing) Day 2009

Park(ing) Day 2009 was last Friday, September 18th. Streetsblog has some videos up from these temporary parks in New York City and San Francisco (seen below).

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Originally created by Rebar, San Francisco art and design collective, PARK(ing) Day, according to its official website, is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks.

Anyone can participate in PARK(ing) Day, though it is strictly a non-commercial project, intended to promote creativity, civic engagement, critical thinking, unscripted social interactions, generosity and play. View some a slide show of parks from around the country at the event’s website.

One Response

  1. Cincinnati had about 6 PARK[ing] Day locations, but none were nearly as cool as these. We’re going to have to step up our efforts next year if we want to be included in the video. 🙂
