Some news from around…..

  • Last month the NY Times reported that consumers may be spending less, but they are doing more. Going to the park and specifically canoeing on Biscayne Bay in Miami are mentioned. (NY Times)
  • According to Grist, Vancouver’s parks aren’t good enough to make its “why the city is green” list, but a view of the mountains is.  Mountains are great, but nature in the city can be touched — just take 1,000 acre Stanley Park a stone’s throw from downtown.
  • What makes for a romantic city? Kaid Benfield has some thoughts, and includes “parks and quiet places mixed in with urbanity” among other classic city features.
  • Times Square pedestrian areas on Broadway will be made permanent by city, which cited success in improved pedestrian safety and foot traffic, along with mixed results on improving traffic flow. (NY Times)
