The 100 Acres Art & Nature Park in Indianapolis

The sculpture garden-style park is being taken to a whole new level with the Virginia Fairbanks Art and Nature Park in Indianapolis. The new 100-acre area was formerly a gravel pit, quarry and construction site. The park will be run by the Indianapolis Museum of Art and will play host to natural amenities and art projects that are “site-responsive.” According to Metropolis, the “IMA commissioned eight artists to create pieces for the inaugural installation—Atelier Van Lieshout, Kendall Buster, Alfredo Jaar, Jeppe Hein, Los Carpinteros, Tea Mäkipää, Type A, and Andrea Zittel. And, going forward, a new site-specific project will be announced every year.”

The sculpture gardens in Minneapolis, Washington, D.C. and Seattle are well known to many – and this project seems likely to garner similar or greater attention when it opens in June, 2010. A video on the park from the Museum below:
