The provision by Sen. Coburn to prohibit any community park from receiving funding from the stimulus package has been stripped. The agreement reached by the House and Seante conferees means that parks are now back in the game for stimulus. Word is just coming over the wire now that the House has passed the conference committee bill. Here’s the new language:
SEC. 1604. None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available in this Act may be used by any State or local government, or any private entity for any casino or other gambling establishment, aquarium, zoo, golf course, or swimming pool.
So, no to pools and zoos, but parks are back in.

That’s great…another set of money that has been near and dear to my heart stayed in and grew over the course of this process. High-speed and inter-city rail now has over $8 billion. Yay!
